Colloquium Topic: Center for Educational Resources at Homewood

In a world where high-end computers and glitzy software have become affordable for most academics, how can a center dedicated to "enhancing teaching and learning with appropriate digital technology" really make a difference? No longer the keepers of the coolest toys, perhaps our role is now getting interesting! The speaker will offer some tips for making the content, its message, and its presentation most effective by complimenting traditional teaching with web-based supplements.

Colloquium Speaker: Gail Richter-Nelson

Ms. Gail Richter-Nelson holds a Master's degree in Instructional Technologies and is a Senior Information Technology Specialist with the recently created Center for Educational Resources, located in the Eisenhower Library on the Homewood Campus. The CER partners with faculty of the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences to enhance teaching and learning through the appropriate use of new media in web-based course supplements. Prior to coming to Hopkins, Ms. Richter-Nelson served as the Director of the Media Authoring Center, at George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. This was a digital multimedia mentoring facility for students, similar to the Multimedia Development Center & Digital Media Center on the Homewood Campus. Earlier, she was the president and owner of one of the first high-resolution computer graphics companies in Canada, Starburst Computer Images and as a director, and producer of educational films for the National Film Board of Canada. Ms. Richter-Nelson garnered many awards.
