Colloquium Topic: Five Myths of Nuclear Deterrence

Nuclear deterrence is perhaps the national security issue most debated with emotion rather with rational, logical thought.  The incredible destructive power of nuclear weapons should lead all to a desire for a future world without nuclear weapons.  But until that day arrives, the United States must maintain a safe, secure and effective nuclear deterrent both to deter adversaries and to assure allies they can count on US security commitments.

The nuclear threats to America and our allies still exist, are real, and are substantial. These threats require us to educate and advocate for the importance, commitment and investment needed to sustain our triad and nuclear deterrence.  There are too many incorrect and emotionally driven popular myths accepted uncritically by too many people. This talk will address five of the most common erroneous myths concerning US nuclear capabilities.

Colloquium Speaker: Garrett "Sack" Harencak
