Colloquium Topic: Rise to the Opportunity

When your train pulls into the station, the appropriate response is to make yourself ready. Before it arrives you put loose items away and confirm the destination for where your ride is taking you. The current workplace environment is churning with opportunities. Due to national challenges, the global environmental crisis, and a soon-retiring generation, the chance for current professionals to make an impact is upon us.

This month in celebration of Women’s History we want to help you put loose items away so you can make yourself ready for what’s coming. I want to share with you some practical tips that will lighten your load, allowing you to meet opportunity head-on. The train is coming, and opportunity awaits; you just need to Rise to the Opportunity!

Colloquium Speaker: Jamon "Ham" Bailey

Jamon T. Bailey’s experience spans over 20 years in the Training and Leadership/Development arena supporting Mid and Senior Level professionals in the DoD, Military, and Healthcare Industry. He is a Leadership/Development Coach and Consultant that helps people-focused managers develop energetic leadership presence and coach-centric leadership skills.

Prior to working with Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, Jamon worked in Program & Project Management in the Cyberspace Training and Simulations & Modeling arena for Booz Allen Hamilton, CACI, and GDIT developing scenario-based individual and collective training sessions for First Army, FORSCOM Counter Improvised Explosive Device Integration Cells, G3 Pentagon Personnel System Staff Officers, and Cyberspace Operators. As a Marine Corps veteran, he has served as a Leadership Course Instructor, Recruiting Manager, and Range Control Chief scheduling live fire engagements with the JGSDF and all military service components. He has coached and mentored leaders at all levels.

Currently, Jamon supports JHU/APL as a Senior Learning/Leadership Consultant and is responsible for developing core leadership competencies and character of APL Staff at the mid-career and senior executive level through leadership off-sites and enterprise training sessions.

Additionally, Jamon is the CEO of Following The Leader LLC. Through Following The Leader, he supports individual clients and nonprofits in the Healthcare and Community Development Industry. Jamon works with some of healthcare’s most successful emerging and seasoned female leaders pursuing C-Suite level roles. Jamon is part of a team of Executive Coaches staffed by TCR & Associates that piloted a Global Leadership Accelerator Program for Black and Latina Women in the Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences Industry during the height of COVID vaccine development. This program was a five-month Accelerated Leadership Individual and Group Coaching Program using the Energy Leadership Development System to help leaders in the Pharmaceutical and Life Sciences Industry reduce stress and accomplish key goals during the height of the COVID pandemic. This work was published in the Executive Leadership Council Journal (ELC).

Jamon’s approach rests on the foundation that coaching is partnering with an individual in a thought-provoking and creative way to help them maximize their personal potential. It is firmly rooted in the 7 levels of awareness outlined in The Energy Leadership Development System. This approach starts with The Energy Leadership Index (E.L.I.); a one-of-a-kind assessment that enables individuals to hold up mirrors to their perceptions, attitudes, behaviors, and overall leadership capabilities. The Energy Leadership Development System helps individuals and teams assess their emotional and stress responses to identify and correct the subconscious perceptions and beliefs that are draining their energy resulting in less stress and more productivity.
