Colloquium Topic: U.S. Strategic Bombing in Doctrine and Practice in World War II: The Case of the European Theater

The lecture considers the origins and background to high-altitude precision American strategic bombing doctrine in the 1930s and its realization in the great air campaign over Germany after 1942, with particular attention paid to the relationship between doctrine and outcomes.



Colloquium Speaker: Marcus Jones

Marcus Jones is associate professor of German, economic, and military history at the U.S. Naval Academy. He received his Ph.D. at Yale University under the direction of Henry Ashby Turner, Jr., and is the author of scholarly studies of the German steel industry, Nazi economic imperialism, and the strategic policies of Otto von Bismarck.
