Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory To Name Top Inventions, Inventors on April 20

The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Md., will honor 220 inventors and announce its top inventions for 2003 at its fifth annual Invention of the Year ceremony on Tuesday, April 20, from 5-7 p.m. in APL's Kossiakoff Center.

APL inventors registered 139 invention disclosures with the Lab's Office of Technology Transfer last year in areas ranging from biochemical detection to information processing. An independent, outside review panel will select the winning inventions in three categories — physical science, information science, and life science — based on their potential benefit to society, improvement over existing technology and commercial potential.

APL Director Rich Roca and Director of Technology Transfer Wayne Swann will present plaques and cash awards to the winning teams of inventors.

The event is open to invited guests and the media. Members of the media can contact Helen Worth or Michael Buckley for more information. Directions to the Kossiakoff Center are available at .
