Hiring Our Heroes and SkillBridge

The Hiring Our Heroes organization leverages the DoD SkillBridge Program to connect the military community with American businesses to create economic opportunity and a strong workforce. Through various fellowship programs, Hiring Our Heroes places highly skilled and educated transitioning service members, veterans, military spouses, and military caregivers with employers committed to hiring them. APL has participated in the program since 2018.

Partnerships With Service Academies

APL partners with the U.S. service academies to host cadets and midshipmen for three to six weeks each summer. Service academy students are assigned mentors, who introduce them to APL’s various mission areas and provide guidance as they contribute to sponsored projects.

Summary

In everything I do for my work, I’m able to bring a unique perspective and insight to understanding what the warfighter needs. In addition, the comradery among veterans transcends space and time in service or branch. Separating from military service is quite a transition, and veterans mutually supporting one another is a major part of the overall transition process (especially here at APL). Together, the veterans at APL created a community through shared stories, experiences, and traditions, all of which help to improve the lives of those who have served.
