NAVAIR Support
Established in 1997, the APL Lexington Park Field Office provides assistance to over a dozen sponsor programs within the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) and Program Executive Offices PEO (U&W), PEO(A), and PEO(T). NAVAIR and the PEOs constitute a major sponsor base for APL’s role as a university affiliated research center (UARC). Additionally, the field office provides a link with the resources of the Johns Hopkins University and local educational activities answering the needs of government personnel and other technical professionals in Southern Maryland.
APL’s long-standing contributions to NAVAIR programs trace back to two programs that remain at the forefront of naval aviation today. These are our Technical Direction Agent role for the Tomahawk Weapon System programs for more than 30 years and our trusted technical agent role in Navy electronic attack programs for more than 35 years. Our contributions to solving critical challenges have grown over the years to include assistance to programs in all NAVAIR PEOs and in AIR-4.0 engineering competencies as well.
Field office staff provide expertise and project leadership in a number of engineering and analysis disciplines across the enterprise. Staff are supported by additional technical talent available at APL’s Laurel campus.
Leveraging additional expertise from the Precision Strike Mission Area, we apply critical experience, systems engineering, and operations analysis across many domains, including:
- Sensor data processing and management
- Guidance and navigation systems
- Mapping and geodesy
- Mission planning
- Weapon control
- Human systems integration
- Command and control communications
- Electronic jamming
- Meteorology
- System architecture
- Software development
- Modeling and simulation
